  • Pemba was, and remains, the main source of most of Zanzibar's famed clove production.

  • Pemba is the East African centre for traditional healing and witchcraft with people coming from as far as Uganda and Congo seeking healing or to learn the ancient arts.

  • Iberian style Bull Fighting was introduced by the Portuguese in the 16th century and can still be seen today in different villages mostly between August and February.

  • Pemba was closed to all foreigners until the 1980's

  • Pemba is geologically older than Unguja (Zanzibar Island) and is believed to have been settled even earlier than it's famous counterpart.
